For their birthday my kids get to pick any cake they like and I make it. Any cake at all…. This cake is the one that my younger son selects every year. Every. Year. And my older son selects most years. Needles to say, it is a family favorite for a reason. Yummy and not too sweet since it lacks the traditional slather of frosting. You could add a chocolate ganache on top, but I like to use a special pan shaped like a cookie.
Any way it looks, it is delicious.
Bonus…. it can even be a Bill Cosby breakfast –> It has eggs, milk, flour… breakfast!

Ingredients
- 1 (18.25 ounce) package devil’s food chocolate cake mix, prepared as directed
- 1 (8 ounce) package Cream Cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
- 12 Oreo cookies, coarsely crushed
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Prepare cake batter and bake in 2 (9-inch) round pans as directed on package. (I have a special silicone cake pan that bakes that cake shaped a an Oreo cookie). Cool cakes in pans for 15 min, invert to remove cake from pan, then cool cakes completely.
- Beat cream cheese and sugar in large bowl with mixer until blended. *Gently* stir in Cool Whip and crushed cookies (if you mix too much, the cool whip will deflate and the cookie crumbs will make the filling grayish)
- Place 1 cake layer on plate, spread with cream cheese mixture. Top with remaining cake layer. Let stand 10 min. or until firm. Keep refrigerated
